We are gathered in the Turbine Hall amongst the buzzed energy of stage two English students presented with the challenge: A FRESH APPROACH TO WASTE.
Newcastle produces more waste per person than some other UK towns and cities and more than 1/3 of it ends up as landfill.
This is obviously not sustainable.
Everyone needs to take responsibility for this appalling statistic.
Already in Newcastle there are litter picking groups, recycling, and neighbourhood organisation but there needs to be more.
The council have the ambitious aim for Newcastle to become the leader nationally in its approach to waste.
This year, the stage two students are tasked with the challenge of identifying a product, service, technology or initiative to help Newcastle transform the waste cycle.
