Publishing grad scheme starting in Sept 2015!

This looks like an amazing grad scheme! There are not often long-term (This ones 18 months!) schemes available in Publishing so make your application stand out… Head to the Careers Service to get advice on your application!

George RR Martin, Jonathan Franzen, Agatha Christie, Dr Seuss, JRR Tolkien, Hilary Mantel, David Walliams, Veronica Roth, Lionel Shriver – these are just some of the world-class authors published by HarperCollins.

We are one of the world’s leading English language publishers. HarperCollins is proud to publish prize–winners and international giants, rising stars and home-grown heroes, chart toppers and cult favourites, and many of the world’s most trusted education and reference brands – all for adults and children alike. We have a 200 year history full of firsts, which you can read more about on our website.

We are also very proud of our graduate trainees. They help us stay ahead, be creative, and challenge us to think and act differently.

If you succeed in joining the 2015 HarperCollins Graduate Scheme you would be based in our new offices in the News Building. We share this with our News UK and Dow Jones colleagues in the London Bridge Quarter, next to the Shard and opposite the famous Borough Market. Our open-plan office has amazing views across London, and includes a variety of break-out areas to aid inspiration and collaboration, a multi-media suite, and a fabulous cafeteria floor, book shop and tech bar.

You need to be passionate and proactive. Creative and commercial. Willing to learn and full of new ideas. You need to be outstanding and demonstrate potential.

Our Graduate Scheme is well established and we’ve been running it for over 20 years. Those who have completed it have gone on to roles as varied and fascinating as publishing directors, strategy directors, digital business gurus and pricing experts.

Successful candidates for 2015 will spend 18 months working in teams across the business – including Publicity, Marketing, Digital and Strategy, and with a particular focus on Editorial.

We will give you projects, develop your fast-track potential and we expect you to get seriously involved with the business, championing our books and our authors.

What do you get in return? As well as a chance to really immerse yourself in all things HarperCollins, we’ll pay you a competitive salary with 26 days holiday, your own mentor to learn from, an unrivalled suite of training courses and workshops to develop you and you’ll also have access to more free books than you’ll ever need (so that’s Christmas sorted!). We also have a subsidised cafeteria, discounted gym membership, flexible benefits and employee cards to get money off in lots of local restaurants, bars, health and wellbeing, fashion and the theatre.

How to apply

It’s a really popular scheme and we do get a lot of applications, so now that we’ve hopefully convinced you to apply, this is your chance to convince us that you have what it takes. To do that you need to stand out.

Stage 1

The first stage is a video interview. We want you have the chance to shine, to show us who you are in more detail than a CV and cover letter could tell us.

You’ll need your CV to hand, a quiet room and a device with a camera and internet access. We’d like you to think about the following questions before you film your video application:

1. What is the best designed product that you can think of and why?

2. How would you convince a successful self-publishing author that signing up with HarperCollins is a better option for their next book?

We’re going to ask you to tell us a bit about yourselves too, so start thinking about your USP (unique selling proposition) now.

Don’t worry if you’re not quite ready yet, you’ve got until the 8th May to finish filming. So that we keep on track and can watch all your videos, we cannot accept applications after that date.

Stage 2

After that we’ll give you a week or two to breathe and then we’ll have an open day and an on-site assessment where you’ll meet some of the HarperCollins team for an interview and a drink!

Stage 3

The next stage will be a final assessment day – all to be revealed soon.

Stage 4

Offers to the selected graduates to join us in September 2015 for the start of their 18 month rotational programme.
